Ezekiel 5-8

I don’t think we realize how our disobedience affects God. Yes, He has feelings. He experiences emotion. But He is never controlled by them.

God says through the prophet Ezekiel that one day the Jews, who were being punished for their rejection of God, will remember how crushed God was by their promiscuity, their idolatry. (6:9a, CSV)

We’ve all heard there are no tears in heaven. But I’m not sure that’s true. God will wipe away OUR tears. But who will wipe His?

Don’t think God doesn’t take that little white lie you told personally. Don’t think the gossip, the tolerance and inclusion of sin in your life doesn’t break His heart. The evil thoughts, the placing a job or a relationship above Him, the lingering look at your neighbor’s wife, your sin and mine, crush God according to Scripture.

So what will it be? Will your thoughts and actions grieve God? Will you cut Him to the quick by rejecting Him and His righteousness? Or will you bring Him joy today?

I think you know how I am praying for all of us.

Isaiah 46-51

You read what God has said through the prophet Isaiah how ridiculous it is to worship anything you make. Setting a carved statue in your home, then praying to it is not only futile, it is disobedience. Cover it in gold, bling it up, it’s still an inanimate object that will never hear or have power of any kind.

But, you say, the idol isn’t the god. It’s a representation of the god.

That doesn’t make it better.

I will say I have a concern about the “Little Jesus” trend. These cute little figures are everywhere! People say they are meant to be reminders of God’s presence. It’s a harmless little symbol like wearing a cross around your neck. But I wonder.

I’ve heard of people who panicked when their little Jesus was misplaced. Others who say they look to it and pray they’ll have a good day. They would most likely say they don’t pray TO that mass-produced resin doll. They merely look toward it to pray to God.

Isn’t that what the pagans did in the Old Testament?

I would imagine these people are in the minority. But I still don’t understand why they have a little Jesus doll in the first place. Is there any Scriptural basis for using an object to pray to God?

Does everyone need “a little Jesus” in their lives? Stop and think about that. A little Jesus? I don’t know about you, I want more and more of Him every day.

Personally, I won’t have a little Jesus in my home. Do you? Why do you? Maybe I’m making a big deal over nothing. But I guess you could say I’m willing to error on the side of caution.

Jesus has said He will never leave me or forsake me. He has said He is with me til the end of the age. I’m just going to take His Word for that.
